Laura Beasley, the Mother who Tells Stories, is a Weight Watcher Lecturer who has lost 190 pounds without surgery. Writing stories grew out of her experience after finding a tumor. Writing was one of the unexpected benefits of cancer. As a professional storyteller of traditional tales, she wanted to create an original story to explain the scar from the biopsy on her neck. After completing chemotherapy in 2001 when her children were ages 9, 12 and 19, Laura decided she would spend the next decade writing one hundred stories to line her empty nest. She has written ten short stories each year as she had planned and will begin the process of selection, revision, editing and publication in 2011. She lives with her high-school sweetheart-husband and pets in Orange County, California.
